Despite reports indicating an internal delay, Playground Games still says that Fable, its successor to Lionhead’s series, is out this Fall. In a recent response on Twitter, it said, “Excited to welcome you back to Albion in Autumn 2026!”
Of course, it’s still possible that it was planned for late September and then moved to, say, October or November. That would still fall within the “Autumn 2026” release window. It’s also likely a sign that things are undecided at Xbox, and its release date remains unknown, even internally.
Much of the reported concern stems from Grand Theft Auto 6, launching on November 19th for Xbox Series X/S and PS5 and seemingly touting a budget in the billions. Microsoft is allegedly keen on avoiding a confrontation with the same. Halo: Campaign Evolved reportedly launches in July, while Gears of War: E-Day is reportedly set for the second half of the year (which offers a free range of dates to choose from).
Regardless, all we can do at this point is wait for an announcement, which could happen at the Xbox Games Showcase and Gears of War: E-Day Direct on June 7th. Interestingly, Microsoft is rumored to be hosting a “small” show on April 16th where 4A Games is reportedly revealing Metro 2039. The purported next mainline entry was confirmed to be in development back in November 2020 and has yet to be officially unveiled.
