Following the highly-anticipated release of the Fallout TV show on Amazon Prime, player numbers across all titles in the series are seeing an uptick. Perhaps the most noteworthy is Fallout 76, which peaked at 39,455 concurrent players on PC via Steam per SteamDB. Its previous peak was 32,982 players nearly four years ago (roughly a month after the title’s launch on Steam).

Circana executive director and analyst Mat Piscatella also tweeted that this is “its highest engagement rate on Xbox Series consoles (Daily % of Active XBS Players Playing) since October 2022.” It’s worth noting that the online title is currently free to play until April 18th across all platforms, with various editions discounted across all platforms.

Fallout 76 first launched in November 2018 and saw exceptional backlash for its bugs, technical issues, terrible gunplay, nonexistent story, etc. It’s received a significant number of updates since then, including the return of human NPCs, surpassing 17 million players as of December 2023. Even more content is coming with the addition of Shenandoah to the world map, which brings new questlines, factions and rewards, and Part 2 of the Atlantic City Expedition.
