Much like many other Ubisoft titles in recent days, Far Cry 6 suffered some leaks. Though the publisher confirmed its appearance at Ubisoft Forward, it probably didn’t expect the trailer to leak as well. The original source has been removed along with its different mirrors but along with confirming the release date (February 2021), the trailer also provided more set-up for the plot.
Breaking Bad’s Giancarlo Esposito plays Anton, a dictator whose country is in turmoil. In the trailer, he gives his son Diego a grenade and then removes the pin, explaining how it won’t explode as long as it’s held together. From there, Anton showcases the city in conflict, noting that the people are “divided” and their liberty is “choking them”. Various protestors, some armed with Molotov cocktails, can be seen.
Anton says that the people will curse him but it’s up to Diego to decide what he wants to do. Much like the grenade, if the people are not held together tight, then things will explode. It’s an interesting premise, though the player will be taking the role of a freedom fighter instead and working to overthrow Anton. What Diego’s role will be in all of this remains to be seen.
Far Cry 6 will reportedly release on February 21st 2021. A free upgrade option from PS4 to PS5 has been leaked so expect it to be available for current and next-gen platforms at launch.
