The Final Fantasy 14 development team had a very busy weekend, announcing the next major expansion Endwalker. It also announced the PS5 version whose open beta starts on April 13th. In the meantime, current players can expect patch 5.5 “Death Unto Dawn” to be deployed on the same day.

As producer/director Naoki Yoshida outlined in the latest Live Letter from the Producer, this will be the first part of the update with the second going live by May end. The update will begin setting up events leading into Endwalker and include a new dungeon in the main story. Since it supports the Trust system, you can bring AI comrades along with you.

Players can also expect the third of the NieR: Automata Alliance raids to go live with series creator Yoko Taro apparently having some surprises. Patch 5.5 will also contain adjustments to different Jobs. Perhaps we’ll see the changes to Astrologian go live sooner than later.

As for Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker, it’s currently slated to release in Fall 2021.
