Final Fantasy 16

Compared to previous titles in Square Enix’s vaunted RPG series, Final Fantasy 16 takes an action-heavy approach to combat. It’s entirely real-time with dodging and combos, which is no coincidence since Devil May Cry 5 combat director Ryota Suzuki is on the team.

While we’ve seen what protagonist Clive can do , a short new gameplay clip showcases potential combos with Torgal, his wolf partner. Torgal is capable of attacking and healing in battle. However, he can also launch enemies for Clive to follow up on. Some combination attacks include Clive launching an enemy and Torgal following up with a spinning attack.

The former can then smash it down, leading the latter to follow up with a grapple attack. It’s pretty extensive and makes you wonder what other combos are possible. Expect more such gameplay clips in the future.

Final Fantasy 16 releases on June 22nd for PS5, but a demo will be available two weeks prior. Stay tuned in the meantime for more details.
