Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 16 is going to be a massive experience, whether you stick to the story path or explore the various side content. But what can fans expect in terms of playtime? In new interview with the Italian website Everyeye (translation via DeepL), director Hiroshi Takai revealed that the story should take about 35 to 40 hours to complete.
While a post-game has been mentioned, “The truth is that during the campaign, there will be plenty of optional content to explore as early as the first playthrough. You will be able to experience most of these without having to complete Final Fantasy 16 first.” Though Takai doesn’t have an exact estimate, the overall time playtime should reach the “70-hour mark or so” when factoring in side content.
New Game Plus and a higher difficulty option have already been confirmed, allowing one to replay the story against tougher enemies. In addition, Takai said, “We have also included quite a lot of content suitable for difficulty lovers and which will precisely push you to hone your skills!”
Final Fantasy 16 is out in Summer 2023 for PS5. Development is 95 percent complete, and release date should be announced before the year is out. Stay tuned for more details, and check out the latest trailer here.
