Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Director Wants to “Consider Further Expansions” for Queen’s Blood

The minigame's positive reception could prompt Square Enix to expand upon it, director Naoki Hamaguchi has suggested.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth - Queen's Blood

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a stellar game, and the bevy of minigames it offers has become one of its most highly praised elements. Even with nearly 30 minigames on offer, however, there’s one in particular that has proven most popular with the game’s player base by far- Queen’s Blood, which is not only an entire, in-depth card collecting and battling game in and of itself, but also comes with an entire storyline revolving around it.

Fans have taken to it so strongly, in fact, that many have been hoping to see more of it in the future in some way, shape, or form. Interestingly enough, according to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi, that’s something that Square Enix itself might be considering as well.

Speaking in a recent interview with Red Bull, Hamaguchi said that in light of the strong reception for Queen’s Blood, the development team wants to look into “further expansions” of the card game.

“We haven’t decided anything in terms of future development for Queen’s Blood, but so far, the media who played it have provided very positive feedback on it, so we want to consider further expansions as a possibility,” he said.

Of course, what Hamaguchi means by “further expansions” specifically is anyone’s guess, and given the fact that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth itself is still not even two weeks old, it’s likely that no concrete plans are in place right now either way. Fans will be hoping to see Queen’s Blood being spun off into its own game (a la The Witcher 3’s Gwent), or even new content for the card game being added to Rebirth itself, but whether Square Enix ends up doing that remains to be seen.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is available on PS5. Read our review of the game through here.
