It’s no secret that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a massive game, but while there is a copious amount of content, fans are excited to see where the story goes next. Various trailers have showcased Zack Fair, who ventures to Midgar following the events of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7, but a familiar foe from Final Fantasy 7 Remake also appears. Spoilers follow, so beware.

Speaking during the Thailand Game Show 2023 (as reported by GeekCulture), game director Naoki Hamaguchi revealed that the Whispers of Fate will also return. “In the previous game, we brought in the Whispers. So, the player can expect to see if there are any further developments for the Whispers. Not only will they appear, but Zack is showing up as well, so it’s like, ‘What will happen to Zack?’ This is the exciting point.”

Of course, while the Whispers will return, it’s unconfirmed if they can be fought. They played a pivotal role in Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s story, though whether they have any major impact on Rebirth remains to be seen. Then there’s Zack, an anomaly in his own right rumored to be playable, though Square Enix has not indicated the same (unlike with Sephiroth).

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth launches on February 29th, 2024 for PS5. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
