Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake has made a big splash in Japan. According to Famitsu’s estimated physical software and hardware sales for the week of April 6th to 12th in the region, the PS4 title managed to sell 702,853 units. It effectively beats out the opening week sales for previous Square Enix titles like Kingdom Hearts 3 (610,077 units) and Final Fantasy 15 (690,471 units).

Other noteworthy figures include Animal Crossing: New Horizons which sold 292,876 units and notched up over 3.3 million sales in Japan. Resident Evil 3’s remake is in distant third with 34,698 units sold for the week with lifetime sales at 224,188 units. Of course, all of these figures don’t include digital sales so their overall numbers will be higher (especially with Capcom noting that the remake crossed two million in digital sales and worldwide shipments).

The release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake helped the PS4 immensely – both the PS4 and PS4 Pro cumulatively sold 79,059 units and beat out the Switch. Meanwhile, the Nintendo Switch and Switch Lite managed to average 25,313 units sold for the week. Check out the software and hardware sales charts below.
