Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 Director is “Actively Considering” DLC

There were also "some ideas" for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth DLC, but the team wanted to prioritize releasing the third installment ASAP.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Even before it launched, Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth boasted overwhelming content and easily ranks as one of the biggest single-player RPGs in recent years. While the development team confirmed there wouldn’t be DLC post-launch, it seems there were ideas and a plan for the same.

WCCF Tech caught up with director Naoki Hamaguchi at last month’s Tokyo Game Show, who revealed through an interpreter that, “There were definitely some ideas to create a Rebirth DLC and that was the plan at a certain point in time, but when we revisited this topic and we thought about what our priorities should be and what the fans are looking forward to the most.

“We figured that what fans want the most is to bring the third installment as soon as possible. That would take priority over the Rebirth DLC, so we decided to take that approach.”

The good news is that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 could receive some DLC. “With the conclusion of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, there’s probably going to be a much wider audience for Final Fantasy as a whole. Whether we bring another new DLC or a full title, that’s something we are actively considering.” Of course, “actively considering” isn’t the same as confirming, so temper those expectations.

It also remains to be seen how the ending will be received by long-time fans and those who have followed the Remake saga for years. Hamaguchi promised it would be “loved by everyone,” but then again, he disagrees that some sections in Rebirth were “longer than necessary,” so opinions may vary. Regardless, he promised a “bit more concise” structure for the third part for those worried.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 lacks a release date or an official name. However, Square Enix, at least per creative director Tetsuya Nomura, internally has a date planned for its announcement. It will be available on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2 at launch – a first for the trilogy.
