Final Fantasy 7 Revelation has attracted its fair share of attention since its reveal at June’s Summer Game Fest showcase, from the Highwind and Fortnite-style parachuting into territory to the absurd installation size. However, even if he’s appeared here and there, Cloud Strife’s presence hasn’t been as heavy-handed as in the previous titles.

Which makes sense, because even with all the changes and new plot elements in the trilogy, Revelation still follows the same narrative through-line. While reassuring that “Cloud is still the main character” when speaking to GamesRadar, director Naoki Hamaguchi said the team is aware of fans’ desire to “see more of the other characters too, so we very much wanted to have content that goes into each of those characters.”

We’ve already seen this with the ability to take on different side quests with certain characters in the lead, influencing the dialogue choices. That said, this could also mean dealing with Chadley, the Shinra Research and Development Division intern who players tired of in the first game, more. And if that wasn’t enough, he’s designed an AI assistant called MAI that will pop in (how frequently is unknown) to dole out side quests, according to the publication’s interview.

We’ll have to wait and see how they’re ultimately handled, but at least this means dedicated content with Barret, Tifa, Red XIII, Yuffie, and even new additions Vincent and Cid. Perhaps even something involving Zack Fair, whose presence in the plot has been…curious, to say the least.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation launches on April 8th, 2027. In case the file size freaked you out, Hamaguchi assured that the team is committed to “delivering a game that not only meets the expectations of our fans, but is also a work that we, as creators, can be truly proud of.”
