Marvel’s Wolverine Doesn’t Have AI-Generated Assets, Insomniac Clarifies After Fans Spot Odd Sign

The strange-looking bathroom sign is a "UV map bug," says community and marketing director James Stevenson, and a fix is inbound.

Marvel's Wolverine (6)

It’s no lie to say Marvel’s Wolverine has been heavily criticized by fans and reviewers for a variety of things (the high standard Insomniac is held also playing a key factor). However, add concerns over AI-generated assets to the list, especially after players discovered a strange bathroom sign.

However, community and marketing director James Stevenson has since clarified that this is a “UV map bug and we have a fix coming.” He also assured that “There are no AI-generated assets in Marvel’s Wolverine.” Not that PlayStation isn’t using the technology for placeholder art and voices, but at the very least, you can play guilt-free knowing that Insomniac’s release doesn’t have either.

Of course, other issues remain, including the scent trails that pop up during certain moments, particularly story sequences. Besides all the other classic navigation elements – white paint on environmental objects, signs, etc. – they’ve been noted as egregious in what’s a fairly linear game. Insomniac Games has since released a hotfix to adjust their opacity, but it’s looking into options for players to potentially turn them off.

Even with the good but not amazing Metascore leading up to release, Marvel’s Wolverine is seemingly a hit. Alinea Analytics estimates it sold 1.9 million copies, falling behind only Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in revenue generated within the same launch window. Whether this holds up over a longer period remains to be seen, but Insomniac’s post-launch support may help.
