Fortnite Might Get A Respawn Mechanic Soon

"We’ve been considering this mechanic for a while," says Epic Games.

Though Apex Legends’ sudden and meteoric rise has made for tough and fierce competition for the long-dominant Fortnite, Epic Games’ title is still, obviously, continuing to perform strongly. One of the reasons it has managed to stay relevant on a consistent basis is the way Epic constantly updates the game and keeps changing things around by adding or removing new features and elements- and one more significant feature might be on its way.

That feature is respawning, which, of course, can be found in Apex Legends– but none of the other battle royale heavyweights, at this moment. Recently, while answering questions in an AMA over at Reddit, when asked if there was a possibility that Fortnite might get a respawning mechanic in the near future, Epic Games said that that’s something they’ve been looking into for a while.

“We’ve been considering this mechanic for a while and have been exploring it,” they said. “Want to make sure we give it the time it needs and fully understand its impact on the game as a whole. Look for further updates during Season 8.”

Given how drastically the balance of Fortnite would be shifted if respawning was introduced, it makes sense that Epic are taking their time with it. Either way, the question on everyone’s minds will probably be whether this is in reaction to Apex Legends, or a feature that they really have been considering for a while.
