Fortnite’s Next Update Will Add Skill-Based Matchmaking

Bots will also be coming in the next season.

Fortnite Season X

Epic Games is making some changes to its matchmaking in Fortnite: Battle Royale. Currently, the game uses Hype-based matchmaking for Arena on all platforms. However, with update v10.40, it will introduce skill-based matchmaking to the core Battle Royale modes. This means that players will face opponents of similar skill.

That’s not all though – Season 11 will see bots added to the game, mimicking PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds on mobile. The bots “will behave similarly to normal players and will help provide a better path for players to grow in skill.” As the player’s skill improves, the number of bots will decrease. Competitive playlists will not have any bots, however.

Skill-based matchmaking comes first though and the update will be rolled out to all regions. Updates will be made to the system as more players get their hands on it so don’t expect it to be perfect out of the gate. Still, at the very least, it should offer an avenue for average players to have more consistently competitive games. Stay tuned for more details when the update goes live.
