DUBIOUS HONOURS

Most Disappointing Game

Resident Evil 6

Resident Evil is a franchise that you never thought would make a downright bad canon game. Even the controversial Resident Evil 5 was, at the end of the day, a great game. Resident Evil 6, however, made so many promises, and it delivered on almost none of them. It was full of flaws, and even though it went down the action movie route, it didn’t do much about it, and ended up being a major disappointment.

RUNNER UP- Assassin’s Creed 3

Most Overrated Game

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2

Sure, it’s a Call of Duty game that finally tries shaking things up, but we all knew this was the top contender for winning this category. The things it does, it does them right, but about a hundred other games do them now too, its own numerous predecessors included.

RUNNER UP- Assassin’s Creed 3

Most Underrated Game

Dragon’s Dogma

Dragon’s Dogma had its fair share of issues, like the fact that it started off slow, or that it had a somewhat static game world, or that its story made little sense, but there was so much to it that people didn’t appreciate as much as they should have- the combat, the Pawn system, the wonderfully created monsters, the excellently challenging difficulty. Dragon’s Dogma was a flawed gem.

RUNNER UP- Hotline Miami

Most Repetitive Game

Resident Evil 6

We say this about plenty of games these days- run, take cover, shoot. And rarely is it as much of a problem as it is in Resident Evil 6. When the game makes it so boring, setting one direction that each of the campaign follows and then sticking to it with little deviation to speak of, you’re bound to get frustrated sooner or later.

RUNNER UP- FIFA Street

Worst Ending

Assassin’s Creed 3

This was a pretty tough category, since we, and so many others as well, have discussed before what a horrible year 2012 was for endings in video game- or what an excellent year it was for horrible endings! Ultimately, though, we thought Assassin’s Creed 3 emerged as the… winner? Yes, winner. There was almost zero aftermath shown after the oh-so-abrupt ending, and even now you get the feeling that there was much more the writers wanted to tell. The game didn’t end, it just stopped.

RUNNER UP- Dishonored

Worst Game Everyone Expected to be Good

Resident Evil 6

While everyone always had their doubts of Resident Evil 6 and the approach it was starting to take, no one ever imagine the criticism of the game by fans and critics alike would be this harsh. The game did get a few things right, but in the end, Resident Evil 6 was the kind of disappointment you don’t want major franchises having on their resume.

RUNNER UP- Ninja Gaiden 3

Best Game Everyone Expected to be Bad

Sleeping Dogs

When Activision gave up on Sleeping Dogs some time back, then known as True Crime: Hong Kong, after having invested so much in it, it didn’t look good for the game. It certainly spoke loud words about its quality. Well, it spoke wrong. Sleeping Dogs did eventually make it to the market, under the guidance of Square Enix, and impressed one and all with an enjoyable action-packed experience.

RUNNER UP- The Walking Dead

Worst Game of the Year

007 Legends

With the publisher putting pressure on the developers to dish out the game early, there were bound to be a few things wrong with the final product, but 007 Legends got almost everything wrong. It was a boring, dull ordeal devoid of any sort of entertainment, doing what despite everything, we’d thought to be impossible, and making James Bond absolutely unplayable.

RUNNER UP: Call of Duty: Black Ops: Declassified
