The Coalition’s Gears of War 4, a strong follow-up to the original trilogy by Epic Games, will be receiving a free play weekend. The caveat is that you need to subscribe to Xbox Live Gold in order to access it. The free play weekend starts on January 31st at 12 AM PT and ends on February 3rd at 11:59 PM PT.

Multiplayer modes like Versus, Horde, and Escalation are available to play, along with support for co-op. The campaign itself is worth playing through in a weekend, if only to familiarize yourself with current events before Gears 5 releases. Xbox One X owners take note – Gears of War 4 supports 4K and HDR on the console.

As for Gears 5, it’s currently in development for Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs. Slated to release sometime this year, it follows Kait Diaz as she embarks on a journey to uncover her origins. It’s not being called Gears of War 5 for a reason – read here to know why.
