God of War 4: 10 Things We Want To See

More epic set-pieces

Just have a look at that video- the opening thirty minutes of God of War III were simply epic (funnily enough, also the best 30 minutes of the game), and the grandest and most epic opening sequence ever for any game I have ever played. While we scaled Mt. Olympus, we could see Titans climbing the mountains in the background, fighting against the Gods, with Poseidon trying to attack all the while. Epic is the only word for it. Again, just like the boss battles, we don’t want any improvements- just more of the same. Give us more epic set pieces in God of War 4, and we’ll be more than happy.

Longer campaign

As much as we love the high octane, action packed, relentless campaigns in the God of War games, we just don’t like the fact that they’re very short, lasting between 5-10 hours, depending upon which game you’re playing in the series. It’d be nice if the campaigns had more longevity to them, hitting the 15 hour mark, or at least getting close to it. It would not just give the devs an opportunity to throw in more ideas and set-pieces in the game, but also make the product more value for money.

New protagonist

This guy has anger management issues...

Kratos is always angry. He’s always shouting. He’s dumb. He never thinks of anything but revenge. And while we think he’s a badass, and a good character, we want a break from him. Bring in a new guy, based in a new setting (below). Make him shout less and think more, but equally badass and violent. Kratos was a mindless freak, who killed anyone he saw and/or did not like. I mean, come on! Of course the Gods were pissed at him. Who wouldn’t be when you have that attitude?

New setting

I think maybe it’s time God of War moved from a Greek mythology setting to something else. Maybe Egyptian, or Roman, or Nordic. All three would make for a great violent setting with their own rich cultures. And honestly, it’d be great to look at the God of War universe from a different perspective- a new character, a new setting, a new story, but retaining everything else. It’d be like a fresh start, but with a winning formula already on hands.
