Godfall is Not Games-as-a-Service, Has No Microtransactions

Counterplay Games' Richard Heyne also touches on the content that will be included.

Though one of the first console exclusives announced for PS5, Counterplay Games’ Godfall has quite the long road ahead. Then again, with its ambitions as a loot game, long-term support seems to be a given. That doesn’t necessarily put it in the same league as games like Destiny 2 though – there are no microtransactions to be had, for instance.

Technical producer Richard Heyne spoke to Arekkz Gaming in a new interview and along with revealing Hintereclaw, he also clarified whether Godfall was a games-as-a-service title. “We don’t consider it a [game as a service], there are no microtransactions in Godfall. But we are planning that there is plenty of content for the player to dig into once Macros is defeated, so to speak.”

As for whether one can expect endgame content, Heyne confirmed that this will be the case. There’s a campaign that sees players traveling through a number of realms while ascending the Skybreaker Monolith and eventually stopping Macros. “And that is a finite experience…That being said, there is replayable content, there is endgame content, and there is more for the player to explore and revisit once they have completed their ascent of the Skybreaker Monolith,” said Heyne.

Godfall is out in late 2020 and will also release for PC via the Epic Games Store. The story focuses on the remaining members of the Knight’s Order as they attempt to halt Macros’s evil plans. Along with five different weapon classes, each with their own unique move sets, players will also equip Valorplates with unique abilities. Check out a teaser for Silvermane here and stay tuned for more details in the coming months.
