Google Stadia is Not Shutting Down

Contrary to belief – popular or otherwise – Google’s cloud gaming platform Stadia isn’t shutting down. The official Twitter account stated this plainly, adding, “Rest assured we’re always working on bringing more great games to the platform and Stadia Pro.”

This isn’t the first time that Google has had to clarify Stadia’s existence. Last year, following the departure of vice president and head of product John Justice, the company claimed the service was “alive and well.” Before that, its first-party studios were shut down to focus on Stadia as more of a platform.

Reports claim that titles like Supermassive Games’ The Quarry and Squanch Games’ High on Life went from Stadia-only games to more traditional releases because of this. Regardless, the service hasn’t been making any huge moves lately. Stadia Pro continues to add new games with Saints Row: The Third – Remastered, Shantae Half-Genie Hero Ultimate Edition, and Murder by Numbers coming in August.

There are also big-name titles like Skull and Bones, the Saints Row reboot and FIFA 23 coming to the platform later this year. For now, Stadia soldiers on. How long it can keep that pace, especially with the sheer number of projects that Google has killed in the past, remains to be seen.
