September 2022 brought with it one of the biggest and most high profile gaming leaks in recent years when a bunch of alpha gameplay footage for the highly-anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 was leaked online, as well as its source code.
A teenage member of the Lapsus$ hacking group, 18-year old Arion Kurtaj, was alleged to be the guilty party, though as Reuters is now reporting, he has been deemed psychiatrically unfit to stand trial, which means a jury will no longer proclaim him guilty or not guilty, and will instead only determine whether or not he committed the alleged acts.
Kurtaj has been accused of hacking and holding a number of major companies to ransom over the last couple of years. On top of Rockstar, that list includes Nvidia, Uber, Revolut, Microsoft, and many others.
Shortly after the Grand Theft Auto 6 leak, Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two Interactive provided assurances that the open world title’s development would not be impacted in any significant way.
Previous reports have claimed that GTA 6 will be set in modern day Vice City, and will feature two playable protagonists, one of whom will be a woman. Though the game has yet to be formally unveieled, it’s ben suggested that it could launch sometime between April 2024 and March 2025.
