Rockstar Games hasn’t gotten tired of telling us how big Grand Theft Auto 6 is, and quite frankly, we’re still enthralled by the prospect. After noting that it’s roughly three times bigger than its last game, the developer recently told Edge Magazine (via GamesRadar) that its total landmass is almost equivalent to the combined playable space of GTA 4, GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2.
However, co-studio head Aaron Garbut notes the finer details will really grab you, especially in how it offers an “order of magnitude more interiors” over previous efforts. “Every back alley is as densely detailed and interesting as the others. You can go anywhere, any random location, and so many people have thought about that location.” If you recall, the team touted “hundreds” of such interiors to explore when speaking to Bloomberg, but with the degree of freedom Rockstar’s artists have, even Garbut is finding new rooms he’s never seen before.
The studio has spoken about hand-crafting “every room” before, but one example was revealed during Edge’s preview session: A dog left alone in a house who, for lack of a more subtle description, made a mess. When entering, Jason will recoil at the smell, but it’s interesting to note that this started as a reaction to a “particular piece of explorable content.”
Instead of restricting it to the same, Rockstar expanded it. As a result, both characters will express visible disgust when taken to certain places. Does this mean they’ll recoil at each other’s smell if they haven’t showered in a while? Time will tell.
Grand Theft Auto 6 launches on November 19th for Xbox Series X/S and PS5. Check out our feature for all the latest details.
