While it was assumed that Arrowhead had a new Warbond coming to Helldivers 2, something much bigger is en route. Escalation of Freedom is out on August 6th, touted as the “first major update” for the co-op shooter and introducing a bevvy of new content. Check out the announcement trailer below.
The new content includes new enemy types, including the return of The Impaler for the Terminids and an artillery tank for the Automatons. A new difficulty, Super-Helldive, is also inbound, adding more enemies than ever before. Players will also encounter big outposts and fortresses. While challenging, Arrowhead promises “great rewards” for completing them.
A spooky variant of the Swamp environment is also coming, while the Acid Storm effect now reduces the armor of players and enemies alike. New objectives include retrieving and extracting larvae while dealing with the Terminid hordes its crying attracts. Arrowhead is also teasing developments in the Galactic War, from the Automatons continuing to build to “irregular readings” from Terminid spores in various sectors.
