Nintendo might have largely stolen the show today with their impeccable E3 showing, but other companies aren’t resting idle. Bethesda, for example, gave us our first look at their upcoming game in the classic id Software shooter franchise Doom, also simply titled Doom.
For the uninitiated, a bit of context- the game was originally supposed to be Doom 4, and it was meant to follow 2003’s rather controversial and divisive Doom 3; after languishing in development hell for years, Bethesda finally just re-announced it as Doom, removing the number, and included the beta with pre-orders of their recently released excellent Wolfenstein: The New Order.
Now that we have our first tease of the game, the hype is getting palpable and real. Doom hasn’t properly impressed for over 20 years now, but there is some hope that the oldest and greatest shooter franchise makes some sort of grand comeback in the current shooter dominated market. I don’t know, but I know my nostalgia bone would like to see it happen.
We’ll be getting a full reveal of the game at QuakeCon, so stay tuned to GamingBolt.
