In the midst of Square Enix withdrawing from Hitman developer IO Interactive and offering it for sale to interested parties, one rumour suggests that the latter will retain the rights to the franchise.

As per GameStar.de, the rights will be property of IO Interactive and work on season 2 of the action adventure title is “halfway to completion.” It further noted that the second season will “definitely” be happening, something that was in doubt following news of this sale.

GameStar said that the information comes from “reliable” sources and all that jazz with IO expected to announce something new week. Square Enix, for its part, noted that, “We don’t have any further comment beyond the statement [of the pending sale] for now.”

Take this all with a grain of salt for now. What are your thoughts on Hitman being retained by IO Interactive? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for more updates.
