Way back in February, Anton Logvinov (who leaked Horizon Zero Dawn’s PC release) believed that Horizon Forbidden West could be delayed. Sony and Guerrilla Games have revealed gameplay footage for the title but while development is on track, it’s yet to commit to a release date this year. According to GamesBeat’s Jeff Grubb in his recent Giant Bomb show (first discovered by ResetEra’s gt123), there have been “rumblings” of a delay into 2022 while the next State of Play could be in September.
While the show isn’t accessible to non-Premium members, Grubb did provide a response when the statement became popular on Reddit. “I did basically say this. I tried to clarify that this is what I’m hearing and not that it’s a sure thing.” It sounds like the current state of the game means it could be delayed into next year but that things have yet to be decided.
Guerrilla Games has made no bones about obstacles in development in the post-COVID-19 pandemic world, especially with performance capture featuring multiple actors that need physical locations. Time will tell if it ends up being delayed but right now, take these rumblings with a grain of salt. Plans could always change, after all.
Horizon Forbidden West is currently in development for PS4 and PS5.
