Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Forbidden West is looking to be a bigger, more expansive title compared to its predecessor. Game director Mathijs de Jonge confirmed in a new Guerrilla Talks video that the game would be releasing in 2021 for the PS5. However, he also confirmed that there would be “virtually no loading screens” thanks to the console’s SSD.
Mathijs also noted that even when fast-traveling from one point to another or restarting from a checkpoint, the loading will be “super fast”. As for the titular Forbidden West, it covers the frontier stretching from Utah to the Pacific Ocean. The map is a bit bigger than the previous game but it’s billed as being more immersive, especially since Aloy can explore underwater.
Of course, there are new Machines. In fact, as Mathijs says, there are “dozens of new Machines” to discover. The Pterodactyl-like Machines patrolling the skies are called Sunwings; the large turtle-like Machine in the Swamp is a Shellsnapper; and the giant mammoth-looking Machine is a Tremortusk. The Tremortusk comes with numerous weapons and heavy plated armor – it’s dangerous enough in the wild but a real menace once it’s been outfitted by enemy tribes.
Overall, Horizon Forbidden West is looking to be an even bigger triumph than the last game. Check out some screenshots here and stay tuned for more details.
