Guerrilla Games’ Horizon: Zero Dawn has been doing fairly well since release, something that’s even more commendable when you consider that it released in the same week as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Players have certainly been active in the game. Game director Mathijs de Jonge said on Twitter that for the first week, players killed 152 million Watchers, 1.4 Thunderjaws and 20 million Turkeys.

de Jonge also revealed that at some point, Horizon did have guns. However, “Early on in development we had some in, but soon replaced them as they didn’t feel right for the game.”

Considering the developer’s pedigree with the Killzone series and the number of machines, guns wouldn’t have been weird. Regardless, the final result does feel better especially when you use the machines’ weapons against them. What are your thoughts on Horizon: Zero Dawn?
