Heart Machine’s Hyper Light Breaker, a follow-up to the acclaimed Hyper Light Drifter, enters early access in the coming months. While it’s looked good thus far, as players defeat bosses and activate beacons to reach the Abyss King, the biomes have their own threats to beware of. Enter the Flame Wizard, a mini-boss that seemingly assails you at any time.
As the name denotes, the Flame Wizard can burn the Breakers to a crisp and abruptly end runs. While they’re beatable, the teaser calls them an “undying threat.” Furthermore, based on the trailer description, other mini-bosses can appear and make life difficult.
How this plays out remains to be seen, but the mini-bosses add some interesting friction to one’s exploration. They could also provide high-tier rewards or unique drops you won’t get anywhere else. As always, stay tuned for more details.
