Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Producer – “Troy Baker Embodies the Charisma of Indy”

"He knows this character inside and out, has the physicality to bring Indy to life, and understands the nuances of Harrison [Ford]’s portrayal," says Lucasfilm Games' Craig Derrick.

Developing an Indiana Jones game is bound to be a challenging task for any developer for a multitude of reasons, but chief among them has to be having to find an actor who can successfully play the eponymous role, a role that has always been associated with Harrison Ford and no one else, to the extent that it’s impossible for many to imagine anyone else playing the character.

The upcoming Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will see prolific actor Troy Baker stepping into the role (with Ford’s likeness being used), and based on what developer MachineGames has shown off so far, he’s certainly doing an admirable job of emulating Ford’s legendary performances as best anyone could possibly hope he could.

In an interview published on the official Lucasfilm website, Lucasfilm Games executive producer Craig Derrick spoke about the same, acknowledging the challenges of finding someone who can fill Harrison Ford’s boots, before talking about why Baker was chosen as the man to do just that.

“Casting for Indiana Jones is a nearly impossible task because Harrison Ford is Indy,” Derrick said. “Finding someone who can step into those shoes and fill that iconic hat is extraordinarily challenging. But then you meet Troy Baker.”

“Troy embodies the charisma and presence of Indy in a way that feels like he’s been preparing for this role his entire career,” he continued. “He knows this character inside and out, has the physicality to bring Indy to life, and understands the nuances of Harrison’s portrayal—getting the tone and voice just right. Plus, Troy knows how to translate all of that onto the performance capture stage. I had the pleasure of watching him deliver an incredible performance, and I often saw him guiding other actors, helping them navigate the motion capture process, and genuinely enjoying every moment on this project. He’s an extraordinary talent, and he’s brought something truly special to the role of Indy.”

In the same interview, Derrick also revealed that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was “envisioned as a spiritual successor” to classic point-and-click adventure game Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. Read more on that through here.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is due out on December 9 for Xbox Series X/S and PC, and sometime in Spring next year for PS5.
