Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, Capcom’s unorthodox title that combines hack-and-slash combat with strategy, is out later this year. Though it received a new trailer showcasing the gameplay loop, there is more to the process than guiding the Maiden, Yoshiro, and fighting demons to restore Mt. Kafuku.

In a new Xbox Wire preview, the protagonist is revealed to be Soh, who wields masks with divine power. Cleaning villages of defilement can unlock new masks. As you save villagers and repair contraptions to use against the enemy, known as The Seethe, you can bestow different powers to the villagers who assist you.

It allows for different unit types like melee attackers, healers, long-range attackers, etc. It’s also worth noting that Yoshiro must be guided through Torii gates and protected against The Seethe who emerge from them. During combat at night, you can assign different roles to the villagers and even reposition them depending on the situation.

As for The Seethe, they’re very Yokai-esque and have different shapes, forms, attacks and abilities. There’s even the “Festering Seethe”, an even more powerful version.

Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess is coming to Xbox Series X/S, PS5, Xbox One, PS4, and PC and launching day one on Game Pass. Development is currently in the “final stages”, per director Shuichi Kawata. Stay tuned for more details at Capcom Highlights Day 1, scheduled for today at 3 PM PT.
