Lords of the Fallen

Almost a year later, we have to ask again: Do you remember Lords of the Fallen 2? Announced way back in 2014 and expected by 2017, the Souls-like lost original developer Deck 13 Interactive and opted for Defiant Studios. However, in May 2019, publisher CI Games parted ways with Defiant due to the quality of the work being “lower than expected by the company.”

That being said, Lords of the Fallen 2 isn’t cancelled. Development shifted to in-house last year and in a recent interview with Polish site Strefainwestorow, CI Games president Marek Tyminski said that work on the game “moves forward.” “Experienced international developers have been the project heads and the heads of creation. We have already developed a modernized vision of the game, based on what has already been done with the game before.

“We are currently recruiting in three locations at the same time, including Warsaw, where our studies are or will be soon. Ultimately, we decided to develop and build our own team, giving subcontractors only game components. We are just starting cooperation with the first partners. Lords of the Fallen 2 will be created in a similar production model as Sniper: Ghost Warrior Contracts.”

Interestingly, the sequel is being developed “mainly” for next-gen consoles along with PC. Speaking about the trouble development process, Tyminski said that, “We learn from mistakes. After a major reduction of the team in 2018, the time has come to rebuild the structures drawing lessons from the past. We already have a clear development strategy for our team whose task is to create games in the CI Games group.

“Currently, the team consists of almost 40 people and an additional 9 people in the QA team. We will dynamically develop it over the next years. The pace of this development also depends on the effectiveness of our recruitment, which we will gradually inform. We set high standards for potential candidates.”

When Lords of the Fallen 2 will release is still unclear so stay tuned for more updates in the coming year. In more positive news for CI Games, the company is happy with sales of Sniper: Ghost Warrior Contracts and is currently working on a sequel. It’s coming to consoles and PC with a possible release this year.
