Marvel Rivals

NetEase Games recently announced that Marvel Rivals’ Season 0 Battle Pass will return for a limited time. It also revealed Galacta’s Gift, a new event starting today where players can earn rewards like Costume Coins and the new Chrono Shield Cards.

The latter is usable in Competitive play and prevents the loss of points upon suffering a defeat. Players immediately raised concerns about how this could enable griefing and potentially be pay-to-win if sold for real money. The developer has since clarified on Twitter that they’re only usable in Gold rank and below.

Furthermore, Chrono Shield Tokens (earned from Competitive play) and Cards aren’t purchasable with real money. “The purpose is to allow lower-ranked players to enter ranked mode with even less pressure through this mechanism,” it said.

While this does ensure the “purity” of the higher-ranked experience, it remains to be seen if this will ensure higher participation at lower ranks. As always, stay tuned for more updates.

Marvel Rivals is available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. It crossed 40 million players last February. Check out our review here.
