Announced at last year’s PlayStation Showcase, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be released in 2023 exclusively for PS5. Details have been fairly scant since then though actor Tony Todd, who plays Venom, said it would be “massive.” Going by a recent tweet of his though, it seems development is progressing smoothly.

Todd simply said, “Early riser. #Mocap time.” Which doesn’t seem like much but it does indicate that the project is in the motion capture stage, much like how lead animator Mike Yosh teased Marvel’s Wolverine beginning the same. In last year’s GDC presentation (at the 33:40 mark) for Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, creative director Brian Horton said the studio planned to develop full scripts before motion capture.

This would allow for iterating with storyboards and reduce the need for constant reshoots. If Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is following this process, then the script may already be finished. We’ll have to wait for more details in the coming months so stay tuned.
