According to the latest Media Create sales charts, the Nintendo 3DS continues its reign in Japan, which has been solidified with the release of multiple AAA titles for the platform including Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Fire Emblem: Awakening and the recently released Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D.

The 3DS XL sold 29,533 units this week, up from the previous week’s 27,172 and the 3DS saw an even bigger rise with 17,602 units sold versus the 10,394 units sold the previous week. Despite still being on the down low in fourth place, the PlayStation Vita managed to see 10,664 units this week again last week when it couldn’t even cross the 10K barrier.

So far, the 3DS shows no signs of slowing down with titles like Mario and Luigi: Dream Team, The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds and Super Smash Bros. to release over the next 6-8 months. The Vita is no slouch either, as we know that titles like Destiny of Spirits, Killzone: Mercenary and many more among the 30 titles announced at E3 2013 will be heading to the handheld in the coming year.
