RAIDEN’S SACRIFICE

Raiden was no one’s favourite character when stepped into the spotlight in Metal Gear Solid 2, but when he returned as a badass cyborg ninja in Guns of the Patriots, he really turned things around. One of the scenes where he really stole the show was when, echoing what Gray Fox had done back in MGS1, he jumped into front of an entire fricking ship and got crushed under its weight to save Snake’s life. It did not, of course, kill him, but if you were playing the game for the first time ever, you couldn’t know that. In that moment, Raiden was sacrificing himself to save Snake’s life, and the moment and its emotional weight landed perfectly.
