Big Boss Rubbing Fallen Comrades’ Ashes On His Face
After stifling a potential parasitic outbreak, Snake takes to cremating all of his fallen soldiers. The ceremony itself is meant to scatter the ashes of his men to the sea but Snake instead takes to rubbing some of the ashes on his face before swearing to convert them to diamonds. These diamonds are meant to be carried into battle by the surviving soldiers, acting as “a shining light” for the future. In the end, Snake coins the term Diamond Dogs for the group, reflecting the group’s change in outlook and poise following the tragedy.
From a historical stand-point, this could be viewed as the instance that really kick-started the creation of Outer Heaven. The Diamond Dogs act as a PMC, carrying out any kind of job for their clients, no matter how dishonorable it may be but they maintain their pride and honour in their skills. Regardless of wiping the ashes of a corpse on his face, Snake’s resolve to not abandon his comrades to the abyss, even in death, should be noted above all.
