While Konami discussed Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 and updates to Vol. 1 in its recent Production Hotline video, it’s focused primarily on Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. The remake of the 2004 classic is co-developed by Virtuos and Konami and aims for a “faithful recreation of the original story and game design.”

Producer Noriaki Okamura reiterated this during the Hotline (translation via PC Gamer). “It is necessary to release a modern-style Metal Gear for today’s game users, rather than the Master Collection. But Metal Gear Solid should remain Metal Gear Solid, so we will change the graphics and operability, but leave the other scenarios, sounds, and game design unchanged.”

When discussing the title’s development progress, a slide stated, “We’re doing well”, followed by Okamura stating, “We’re doing our best.” As for how much of the original Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater team is on board, he responded, “Not all of them, but many of them are still involved. Some people are walking a new path.

“The number of people who don’t know about MGS is increasing, so I want to do something about this situation. I think it’s our mission for those who remain at Konami to preserve Metal Gear for future generations.” Of course, Konami has already confirmed that series creator Hideo Kojima and artist Yoji Shinkawa are not involved.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is coming to Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC. It’s slated for launch this year (according to PlayStation), and while Konami recently only showcased the title screen, voice actor David Hayter played some of the opening mission and called it “spectacular.” A bigger presentation with more news is coming “soon,” so stay tuned for more updates and check out the first in-engine gameplay here.
