New Dissidia Final Fantasy

A new Dissidia Final Fantasy is in the works, Square Enix recently confirmed, with an official trailer coming on October 14th, 3 AM PT. It marks the first new entry in the franchise since Dissidia Final Fantasy NT launched in 2015 for arcades in Japan before arriving on PS4 in 2018 and PC in 2019.

Check out the teaser website below, which features various real-world environments. The trailer’s thumbnail states “Team Boss Battle Arena,” potentially indicating that it will stick to the previous game’s team-based format. However, the biggest change of all is the lack of a PC or console release – instead, this new Dissidia is coming to iOS and Android.

It’s an interesting but not unusual choice. The first game in the series debuted in 2009 for the PlayStation Portable. Perhaps Square Enix wants to return to a handheld format and use the Final Fantasy franchise’s extensive range of characters for some gacha-style monetization. Stay tuned for more details when the trailer is revealed.
