Next Mass Effect’s Development Team Leads Are “Trilogy Veterans,” Says Project Director

The next instalment in BioWare's acclaimed sci-fi RPG series is currently in pre-production.

It’s been a long time since the glory days of the original Mass Effect trilogy, and though the series’ fanbase remains as strong and loud as it has ever been, there’s little doubt that the sci-fi franchise’s stock has fallen notably over the years, thanks in large part to the misstep that was Mass Effect: Andromeda. Series fans will, however, take solace in the fact that its next mainline instalment’s development is being led by veterans who’ve been working on the franchise for a long, long time.

Taking to Twitter, in response to a question regarding the same, Michael Gamble – who is Project Director on the next Mass Effect – provided assurances that a number of the people in key leadership roles in the development team are all veterans of the original Mass Effect trilogy. More specifically, the executive producer, art director, creative director, and game director have all been working on the franchise for quite some time.

This isn’t the first time we’ve had similar reports. Shortly after the next Mass Effect was officially confirmed to be in development back in 2020, Gamble revealed that a number of original trilogy veterans had returned to work on the next instalment, including the likes of Derek Watts (the aforementioned art director), Brenon Holmes (executive producer), and Parrish Ley (creative director).

Earlier this year, reports claimed that the next Mass Effect was still in pre-production. The game, which is being built on Unreal Engine 5, allegedly will not be open world, and might not be out until 2029.
