Director/producer Fumihiko Yasuda shares his thoughts on the sequel’s inspiration and design.
Koei Tecmo’s Nioh 2 is now available for PS4 and scoring very well among reviewers. However, before you jump into the inevitable slaughter against the Yokai, why not take a look at the game’s development process? Game*Spark and Archipel have teamed up to release an hour-long documentary called “Inside Nioh 2“ – check it out below.
Along with director/producer Fumihiko Yasuda, the documentary also features art director Hirohisa Kaneko, Sony Interactive Entertainment producer Masaaki Yamagiwa, sound director Yojiro Yoshimatsu and more. The documentary looks at how the initial design for the game began and looks at the final few months of development. It’s well worth a look if you’re curious about the thought process for the sequel.
Nioh 2 takes place before the first game and features half-Yokai, half-human demon slayer Hideyoshi taking on the demon hordes. Along with being able to utilize Yokai powers, the protagonist can take on a Yokai form to deal different kinds of damage. New weapon types, enemies and mechanics like Burst Counter are also included, further diversifying the gameplay.
