"f we did a game-as-a-service, we would probably start chopping everything into sub-content," says game director Bartosz Kmita.

Outriders has all the looter shooter and role playing trappings of games such as Destiny and The Division, but developers People Can Fly have made it clear on multiple occasions that unlike those games, their upcoming release isn’t going to be a live service game, with the studio instead focusing on releasing a game that’s complete right off the bat.

And though there’s probably several reasons for that, the one that was the most prominent for People Can Fly was the fact that they wanted to focus on telling a story, and telling it well. Speaking with IGN, game director Bartosz Kmita said that due to story being “so important” to the game, the developers decided not to go down the live service route, because if they had, they would have started “chopping everything into sub-content.”

“When we started our game and realised that the story is so important, we realised if we did a game-as-a-service, we would probably start chopping everything into sub-content,” he said. “We didn’t want to do this because the story was so important for us.”

“We think that there are a lot of cool games on the market, and people maybe don’t have any more time to spend 300 hours to basically grind one item,” he added.

Outriders launches this Holiday for the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia. You can check out roughly 10 minutes of recent co-op gameplay footage through here. People Can Fly have said that they currently have no plans to add PvP to the game.

Recently, it was also revealed that People Can Fly are working on another new unannounced game for the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.
