Remember the good old days of Pokemon Red and Blue, or Diamond and Pearl, or basically any Pokemon game up until Gen 5? The days when you were, to a large extent, go in whichever direction you pleased? More and more of late, Pokemon games have become guilty of railroading, of making the player stop every few seconds, going “hey! listen!” and then prodding them in a very specific direction. You’re essentially travelling down one linear path after the other, and can’t really go from point A to any other place but point B. In Pokemon Gen 8, what we want is some degree of freedom. Let us explore. Let us get lost.
