Sony’s PlayStation 5 has sold over seven million units in Japan, according to the latest Famitsu estimates for September 1st to 7th. The base version sold 36,877 units while the Digital Edition managed 7,315 sales for the week. Lifetime sales for the former are currently estimated at 5,771,474 and 992,697 for the latter.

The PS5 Pro, meanwhile, sold only 2,133 units for a total of 245,766 since its launch nearly one year ago. Despite price increases in the region (which have since hit the United States), the PS5 is still selling at a decent clip. Of course, its growth rate is far behind the Nintendo Switch 2, which is already at nearly 2 million lifetime sales in the region within four months.

Sony announced last month that the PS5 had shipped 80.3 million units worldwide. About 2.5 million consoles were shipped in the quarter ending June 30th, up by only 100,000 year-on-year, so it should be interesting to see if price increases will impact that. Stay tuned for more details in the coming month.
