It seemed inevitable, especially given the impact of tariffs on Sony’s operating income, but it’s now official: The PlayStation 5 is increasing in price for the United States. Starting on August 21st, the base PS5 will cost $549.99 while the Digital Edition retails for $499.99. The PS5 Pro will cost $749.99.
Each console has seen a $50 increase across the board. Accessory prices will remain the same, and Sony confirms there are “no price changes” in the works for additional markets. While this is the first price increase in the US, other regions have been affected. Japan has seen not one but two price hikes for the console in the past two years.
Of course, Nintendo and Xbox aren’t immune to the same. Xbox Series X/S consoles and accessories saw price increases across the board in the US recently. Microsoft also planned to adopt $80 pricing for its major first-party titles this Holiday season before backtracking.
Nintendo increased the price of Switch 2 accessories before its launch last June. Even the original Switch wasn’t safe, with Canada facing price hikes for the base model, OLED, and Switch Lite.
