Sony are finally ready to begin their marketing and reveal for the PS5 in earnest, and how much the console will cost is a question that’s more pertinent now than ever. It’s a question that will likely be answered soon (even if it’s not answered next week), but before that, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan has made some statements that might clu you into what you should be expecting.

Speaking in an interview with GamesIndustry, Ryan noted that Sony’s goal with the PS5 and its pricing is to provide “the best possible value proposition” that we can in view of its games, the breadth of its library, the console’s feature set, and more. He did, notably enough, remark that by that he doesn’t necessarily mean the lowest possible price.

“I think the best way that we can address this is by providing the best possible value proposition that we can,” Ryan said. “I don’t necessarily mean lowest price. Value is a combination of many things. In our area it means games, it means number of games, depth of games, breadth of games, quality of games, price of games… all of these things and how they avail themselves of the feature set of the platform.”

The PS5’s price has been the subject of many reports and much speculation over the last few months. Sony themselves have gone on record a few times saying that the console’s price is something they haven’t concretely landed on, while reports not too long ago claimed that the company was struggling with keeping the console’s price low in light of its manufacturing costs.

While the console’s price is something we may still have to wait a couple weeks or more to learn more about, we will be learning plenty about planned PS5 games, with a games showcase now officially scheduled for June 4.

Recently, Ryan also confirmed that the PS5 will be launching globally, contrary to fears that Sony might do a fragmented launch to counter logistic issues brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. Read more on that through here.
