Developers really like using the PS5’s 3D audio for helping players with their situational awareness. Housemarque’s Returnal is another good example, especially since its environments have a lot of verticality. Knowing where enemies are situated and which direction attacks will be coming from is essential and 3D audio makes that possible. Game director Harry Krueger also said the technology is exciting because “it can create a more convincing and accurate soundscape for players, and a stronger sense of place.…” Given how many times you may be dying in Returnal, it does help to be connected to the world.
