Psychonauts 2

Since its reveal at The Game Awards and the launch of its crowd-funding campaign on Fig, Double Fine Productions’ Psychonauts 2 has garnered almost $2.1 million in funding.

The sequel to the cult classic hit $1.1 million in about 14 hours when it went live and the project currently has more than 13,000 backers. As such, the choice of Fig as a crowd-funding platform has probably helped since backers can earn revenue on the project if they invest $1,000 or more.

Psychonauts 2 is a platform game like the original and will see protagonist Raz return as a bonafide Psychonaut, exploring the minds of various characters and navigating the insanities within. Psychonauts 2 will be heading to Mac OS X, Linux, PC, PS4 and Xbox One with a planned release date in 2018.

Though Double Fine Productions has asked for $3.3 million through Fig, it will be adding its own money and funds from a private investor as well. We’ll find out in the coming months how development pans out so stay tuned.
