Starting with 2017, Capcom has had a major new Resident Evil released lined up for almost every single year, whether that’s a remake, a new mainline entry, or DLC. Earlier this year, we saw the launch of Resident Evil 4’s excellent remake, with the year before bringing Resident Evil Village: Winters’ Expansion. But given the fact that the last new mainline entry in the series, Resident Evil Village, is a couple of years old now, it’s no surprise that many are beginning to wonder when the next numbered RE instalment will come out.
According to prominent leaker Dusk Golem, it’s apparently still a ways off. Speaking recently on fellow leaker The Snitch’s Discord server (shared on Reddit), Dusk Golem claimed that based on recent information received from “trustworthy” sources, Resident Evil 9 is expected to launch sometime in 2025, and that it could be announced in 2024.
Leaks have also strongly indicated that Resident Evil 4 is set to receive a large-scale paid expansion focused on Ada Wong in Separate Ways, so it’s possible that Capcom uses that to fill out the gap betwen new game releases next year.
Dusk Golem has previously claimed that Resident Evil 9 has been in the works since as far back as 2018, and that it may very well be the last numbered game in the series.
Meanwhile, according to Dusk Golem, Capcom will also announce a major new game at the end of this year, which is set to release sometime in Fall 2024. Though the leaker hasn’t provided any hints as to what this title could be, fans will be hoping that it’s finally time for Monster Hunter World’s long-awaited follow-up.
Of course, as is the case with any unconfirmed rumour, it’s best to take this with a grain of salt until we hear something official from Capcom. Stay tuned for more updates in the coming weeks and months.
