Capcom will be hosting a showcase today for Resident Evil Village where it will reveal gameplay footage and other details. There were rumors of a possible multiplayer mode also being detailed, especially with the Steam DB page for the game recently getting the “multiplayer” tag. Thanks to a listing for the Deluxe Edition on Humble Bundle, the apparent name for the mode has been revealed – Resident Evil Re:Verse.
Located by Edward Outcast on Twitter, the listing doesn’t explicitly call this a multiplayer mode. However, it does note, “Details of the operational period for Resident Evil Re:Verse, including commencement of availability and any potential announcements relating to the end of service, can be found on the official website.” The website isn’t currently live but “commencement of availability” and “operational period” does seem to indicate when the mode will go live and for how long.
The other part notes, “Depending on the timing of your purchase of Resident Evil Village, Resident Evil Re:Verse may already no longer be available, and/or the title may become available through other means in the future.” Again, this is seemingly related to servers for the title potentially being shut off at some point (or just a flat disclaimer in case such a possibility comes up). The title being “available through other means” seems to indicate that it will be bundled with the Deluxe Edition for the time being and released as a standalone mode later.
It’s worth noting that none of this points to an asymmetrical multiplayer mode like Resident Evil: Resistance. While one could hope for the return of a Mercenaries-style multiplayer mode, it may be something completely new. We’ll have to wait for more details in the meantime.
Resident Evil Village is currently in development for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC. The upcoming showcase takes place today live at 2 PM PT on YouTube, Twitch and so on.
