Rockstar Games’ Parent Company and Remedy Entertainment Are in a Trademark Dispute Over “R” Logo

Remedy Entertainment revealed a new logo last April, displaying a stylized "R", though Rockstar Games' parent company Take-Two Interactive is none too pleased about that.

In April last year, Remedy Entertainment revealed a brand-new logo for itself, prominently displaying the letter “R” in stylized fashion as the developer sought to “update and redefine its visual identity”. Of course, when you think of a developer that has the letter R as its logo, you instantly think of Rockstar Games. Unsurprisingly, the GTA developer’s parent company Take-Two Interactive is keenly aware of the similarities between the two studios’ logo, and is none too pleased about them.

As reported by Respawn First, two trademarks filed by Remedy Entertainment in the UK for the use of its new logo are currently being opposed by Take-Two Interactive, on the grounds that “there exists a likelihood of confusion on the part of the public.”

Currently, however, the dispute is mentioned as being in the “cooling off period”, which means the two parties involved have agreed to reach a settlement amongst themselves rather than moving forward with legal proceedings.

Funnily enough, Remedy Entertainment and Rockstar Games have a history of collaborating, with the former having developed the first two Max Payne games, which were published by the latter. What’s even more amusing is that the two companies are working together right now on a combined remake of the two titles.
